Los Angeles Harbor College is a public institution located in Wilmington, California in the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area. The mission is promote equity, diversity, and student success through academic programs and support services that ensure our students become productive members of a global society.The nursing program is ACEN accredited and ranks third for AND programs in the state. The School of Nursing offers an RN program and an LVN to RN program provided on campus. The four-semester program of concentrated study (after the completion of the program prerequisites) prepares the diverse body of students to become safe, competent, and caring practitioners for entry level positions in healthcare settings in the community, while cultivating professionalism, an appreciation for other peoples and cultures, and a desire for life-long learning.
Undergraduate programs - The Registered Nursing programs offered to nursing students are at the Associate level. Coursework in the biological, social, and behavioral sciences and humanities form the basic foundation of the nursing program. The program integrates theoretical instruction in the classroom with small group discussions and clinical experiences in hospitals, home healthcare agencies, and other settings. Students have the opportunity to participate in simulated clinical experiences and practice clinical skills in the state-of-the art Simulation Laboratory and Nursing Learning Laboratory.
Upon successful completion of the program, students will use the Roy Adaptation Model to promote adaptation of individuals, families, and the community, and learn internalize professional behaviors of the nursing practice. They will formulate clinical judgments in practice that promote the health of patients. provide safe, patient-centered care, and assimilate effectively within nursing and inter-professional teams, while fostering effective communication to achieve quality patient care. They are adept at incorporating information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making.
